      <p>“Entertainment is all about experiences and emotions,” said Rey. “People get excited about events, and the timeframe to convert their excitement into a ticket sale is short. A fast, frictionless authentication flow is a must to ensure high conversion rates.”</p>

      <p>Initially, Boletomóvil used Firebase for SMS-based authentication, with the expectation that they’d also have login options through WhatsApp — Mexico’s most popular messaging app. But before long, their auth costs started rising, and their WhatsApp support vanished altogether.</p>

      <p>“As we added more users, we noticed unexplained spikes in pricing,” said Rey. “Plus, we needed the WhatsApp integration, since WhatsApp is huge in Mexico. Having a WhatsApp option is the only way to ensure a smooth, successful login process for everyone.”</p>

      <p>With that, Boletomóvil began looking for an alternative auth provider that could meet their needs.</p>

      <p>Bitcoin.com is committed to non-custodial crypto services, which means users have direct access to their digital assets and exclusive control over their private keys. It also means a user who loses a key has no chance of recovery — prompting the platform to offer a convenient backup option.</p>
      <p>“We were seeing a lot of support tickets from users losing their keys,” said Paul Bergamo, Product Lead at Bitcoin.com. “We decided to add a wallet function that allows them to back up encrypted keys to the cloud — which in turn necessitated a secure user account system.”</p>
      <p>The need for robust accounts — and equally robust authentication to protect users’ KYC data — only grew as Bitcoin.com planned for the launch of their new native utility and rewards token, Verse, which was an important moment for the company. Their head of engineering, Andrei Terentiev, described how they first built their own sign-up and login flows in-house — an approach that quickly became untenable as their business grew.</p>
      <p>“We learned that an in-house build wouldn’t scale effectively and involved a lot of maintenance we weren’t prepared to handle on our own,” he said. “As we developed more use cases, features, and products, it became a huge undertaking that drained our engineering resources.”</p>
      <p>Bitcoin.com began researching third-party alternatives — and found a winning solution in Stytch.

      


      <h2>Solution</h2>
      <p>The Bitcoin.com team tested several authentication providers, including AWS Cognito and Auth0. Then, they read an article about Stytch’s passwordless product suite and realized it could provide top-notch security without the typical friction of an auth flow.</p>
      <p>“We were seeing a lot of support tickets from users losing their keys,” said Paul Bergamo, Product Lead at Bitcoin.com. “We decided to add a wallet function that allows them to back up encrypted keys to the cloud — which in turn necessitated a secure user account system.”</p>
      <p>“As a crypto platform, we already have mnemonics and private keys in our wallet,” said Terentiev. “We don’t want to add extra friction with a second round of passwords.       <p>Bitcoin.com was able to get their authentication flows up and running quickly, dropping Stytch’s React SDK straight into Verse’s web platform. They also built OAuth Login solutions for Google and Apple smoothly into their application, as well as Email Magic Links for anonymous users. </p>
      <p>“We built a POC for our product team, and they were blown away by Stytch’s ease of use,” said Andreas Larsson, engineering manager at Bitcoin.com. “The integration was effortless compared to other tools, because we had so much support. There was even a Slack channel where we could ask Stytch questions and receive near-instant responses that put us on the right track. The whole process only took about a month from end to end, including testing and everything.”</p>
      <p>Not only did the initial integration fly by — Stytch’s turnkey products gave Bitcoin.com’s team back the time and energy they needed to focus on their core products.</p>

        <p>For Pronti, effective authentication means not only offering each user a unique, secured account, but also saving them time and effort logging in. These days, no one wants the hassle of creating and remembering usernames and passwords, so Pronti decided to eliminate them altogether.</p>
        <p>“It was a UI/UX choice aimed at making our onboarding and access flows really smooth,” said Mila Banerjee, Pronti’s founder and CEO. “We just wanted a simple passcode that users could enter to instantly log in to our platform.”</p>
        <p>Initially, Pronti turned to AWS Cognito. But users soon began experiencing slow and unsuccessful login attempts, resulting in mounting complaints and mounting costs.</p>
        <p>“If users grew impatient, they would keep clicking the resend-code button,” said Banerjee. “Since Cognito priced us on a per-code basis, we were charged for every click. As we went viral and traffic increased, our authentication costs went through the roof.”</p>
        <p>Pronti did some research into more flexible, user-friendly alternatives and found a promising answer in Stytch’s startup program.</p>

<h2>Solution</h2>
      <p>Right off the bat, Stytch helped Pronti cut costs with a per-user pricing model that scales along with their business.</p>

		  <p>To work with their partners’ existing platforms and membership databases, Gather searched for an adaptable authentication solution that would reduce friction while allowing users to navigate between different applications and accounts.</p>
		  <p>“We don’t have your typical blog-style website,” said Ryan Rosztoczy, Gather’s founding engineer. “We need to be able to partner with organizations, connect to their API calls, and link our authentication together. For instance, one of our partners doesn’t use our signup, because they already had a pre-existing flow. So, the issue for us is, how can we stitch together pieces of auth on our back end to be really flexible for our clients?”</p>
		  <p>At the same time, Gather handles high-volume events for several prominent institutions, meaning they don’t just need a seamless user experience—they need security they can count on.</p>
		  <p>“Our clients tend to be stringent, especially the big universities and museums,” said Rosztoczy. “You have to go through RFT proposals where you outline your entire technical process. For us to do that and make changes based on each organization’s needs would be impossible. We need to be able not to worry about it—to check it off and say, ‘No, we don’t have this vulnerability here.’”</p>

<h2>Solution</h2>
		  <p>Gather turned to Stytch right off the bat to put a versatile authentication flow in place.</p>
		  <p>“When we started thinking about building our auth, I looked at three solutions: Auth0, Magic Link, and Stytch,” said Rosztoczy. “It became clear playing with each that Stytch was going to be the most flexible. With Auth0, you had to open the email in the same browser you requested the login from, which didn’t work for us. And Magic didn’t have the same level of API exposure.”</p>
		  <p>Once they decided on Stytch, the integration process was smooth and painless, even for a very small engineering team. And the Stytch team was there to support them throughout.</p>
		  <p>“It was very straightforward,” said Rosztoczy. “Most of our questions could be answered over Slack, and the docs are clear enough that even Slack was only necessary for certain issues. Overall, it took us less than a quarter of the time, compared to building our own solution. We went from evaluating our options to having rolled passwordless auth in two weeks with just one engineer.”</p>

When they clicked, it would bring them to the Gather website, but then they’d have to log in. Now, we just attach tokens to each email, so a user can go from their inbox to our app fully authenticated. We already have their data, and they’re verified automatically.”</p>
		  <p>What’s more, Stytch’s solid, passwordless solutions save Gather from having to worry about bolstering their security profile and safeguarding their users’ information.</p>
		  <p>“As an early startup with a small team, we want to think about security as little as possible so our focus can be on feature development,” said Rosztoczy. “One of the nice things about Stytch is that there are no passwords. 		  <p>“I remember rolling my own auth at a big company. It was a challenge any time we wanted to do something new, because you had to build it all yourself and redo what you’d done before. I don’t have alerts constantly popping up with errors, and it’s all very easy to monitor and control.”</p>

<h2>Challenge</h2>
		  <p>Cannabis is a crowded and heavily regulated industry, and it can be tough to stand out in the marketplace—especially given its relatively recent entry to the digital sphere.</p>
		  <p>Olla’s CTO, Kristofor Erickson, explained how cannabis is still catching up when it comes to tech.</p>
		  <p>“In the wider e-commerce space, everything integrates,” he said. “Shopify has a million apps, and it’s all happy. But many states didn’t allow cannabis retailers to lean into e-commerce until the COVID-19 pandemic, so the industry is still technologically immature.”</p>
		  <p>As a result, onboarding and checkout flows are often inconvenient multi-step processes, leading to high user drop-off and low engagement—not to mention questionable security.</p>
		  <p>“Our competitors make retailers and consumers register on their platform with an email address and password,” said Erickson. “And users have to log in every time they want to check out and connect to their loyalty program in a way that’s probably not very secure.” </p>
		  <p>“At Olla, we put a lot of focus on checkout flow conversion. For many retailers, it’s phone number, name, checkout—that’s it. We kept that in mind when considering an interstitial step where users would have to create and remember a password for a platform they’re going to use sporadically.”</p>

<h2>Solution</h2>
		  <p>For Erickson, finding Stytch was a lightbulb moment. With Stytch’s SMS one-time passcodes, Olla can register and verify end-users instantly via text—sent to a phone they already have in their hands—plus sync with Springbig to easily unlock and redeem rewards.</p>
		  <p>“We never wanted user accounts,” he said. “We didn’t want to add that friction to checkout. So when we saw what Stytch could do and dug into the possibilities of OTPs, it just clicked for us on the product side. It’s ideal from a conversion standpoint, because it limits the amount of fields to fill out and tasks to complete at checkout. Since over 95% of our end-user traffic is on mobile, it just makes sense.”</p>
		  <p>At first, Olla considered building an OTP flow in-house—but once they started on the engineering, they decided to bring in an expert partner.</p>
		  <p>“Our communications service offered a solution, but it was ridiculously expensive,” said Erickson. “We landed on SMS OTPs because of the cost, the security, and the conversion rates—and we needed the economics to work for us.”</p>
		  <p>Stytch’s thorough documentation and hands-on support made the integration process simple. </p>
		  <p>“Stytch was the first partner where we looked at the documentation and said, ‘Yeah, let’s do that,’” said Erickson. “We jumped right in and knocked it out. We were able to integrate in under two weeks, and we’re a super lean team. Honestly, out of all the partners I’ve integrated with this year, Stytch was the easiest.”</p>

		  <p>“We’re working on refreshing our back-end application that retailers use to manage their inventory and process orders, which still runs on a classic email and password flow,” said Erickson.</p>
		  <p>“That’s always a pain. We want to be able to meet users where they are, so they can just click a link from an email or text to log in. That’s what I love about Stytch’s products. On our back end, there are definitely opportunities to use a lot more fun, passwordless solutions as we grow.”</p>

		  <p>Lighthouse was using Auth0 as its primary user authentication tool. The Lighthouse team was able to quickly get Auth0 up and running, but it soon faced challenges after realizing that it was infeasible to customize its user flow to meet its users’ needs while remaining on Auth0. Specifically, Auth0’s inflexible data structure and authentication flow made it impossible to give users the flexibility to choose either emails or phone numbers as their primary identification method for signups and logins. In addition to forcing Lighthouse developers to select just one primary user identification method, Auth0’s authentication flow redirected users to an Auth0-hosted page and then back to the app, creating a clunky, frustrating onboarding experience for users.</p>
		  <p>As Lighthouse was quickly gaining traction and increasing its user base, the company soon realized that it needed to look for a new authentication solution that would allow it to fully customize its user authentication and onboarding flow, thereby improving its user experience and conversions.</p>

		  <p>When the Lighthouse team decided to revamp its authentication flow, it initially had an internal conversation about whether to build the authentication flow in-house vs. integrating with an authentication provider. It quickly realized that there were a myriad of complexities that go into building and managing an authentication flow (e.g. data management, security protocols, and building reliability measures) and that its internal resources could be better spent on core product initiatives by going with an existing authentication provider.</p>
		  <p>After carefully reviewing API docs of multiple authentication providers and determining whether those providers could support its use cases, Lighthouse decided that Stytch would be the best solution to meet its needs. Lighthouse software engineer, Jack Grzechowiak, was particularly impressed with Stytch’s easy-to-follow documentation and flexible APIs and also appreciated how quickly Stytch’s support team responded to his questions.</p>
		  <p>“Your documentation was very easy to understand and read,” says Grzechowiak. “Also, the Stytch team responded super quickly to my questions about whether or not I could do certain things and updated the documentation the next day to reflect that.”</p>
		  <p>By stripping out Auth0 entirely and implementing Stytch’s API instead, Lighthouse can now deliver its vision of offering a flexible and seamless onboarding and authentication experience to its users. With the majority of users on mobile, the Lighthouse team wanted to create a mobile first experience with <a href="https://stytch.com/products/sms-passcodes">SMS OTP</a> as the default authentication method, while also allowing users to first authenticate through <a href="https://stytch.com/products/email-passcodes">email OTP</a> to offer flexibility. In the second step of the onboarding process, Lighthouse now collects users’ email or phone numbers with an option to verify now or later. Those additional identification methods would later be used as secondary verification layers when users want to engage in activities that would require higher security such as accessing bank account information or changing insurance details. With Stytch’s flexible <a href="https://stytch.com/products/session-management">session management</a> product, the Lighthouse team can introduce ”just-in-time” authentication only when necessary on any given route to remove unnecessary friction from its user flow while also maintaining security.</p>
		  <p>Moreover, instead of redirecting users to an Auth0-hosted landing page when they try to sign up or login, with Stytch, Lighthouse now presents a more seamless sign up and login flow through a pop-up screen that is completely embedded and on brand. The company believes that the new onboarding flow will provide a far better experience to its users, thereby increasing customer conversion and satisfaction.</p>

<h2>Challenge</h2>
		  <p>When Standard Metrics initially launched, the only way an end user could log in was through a Google or Microsoft OAuth flow. This made sense as a starting point as their first clients just supported those platforms. But as the popularity of their product grew, they came up against companies who  either didn’t utilize Google or Microsoft login, or just weren’t comfortable with a password-based option. Because of this, there were important investors who simply could not log into Standard Metrics. This not only negatively affected Standard Metrics, since it limited who could access their platform, but it also frustrated Standard Metrics’s customers, as they had to maintain a separate flow to disseminate information to investors who couldn’t access Standard Metrics.</p>
		  <p>Standard Metrics quickly realized that they needed a secure, yet expansive, user authentication method that still relies on email as the primary factor while also emulating the passwordless experience that already existed with their existing OAuth flows.</p>
		 

<h2>Solution</h2>
		  <p>After reviewing the available options in the market and deciding whether they should build a solution in-house or go with another provider, the Standard Metrics team ultimately decided to partner with Stytch to build out their ideal flow. The primary consideration point for them was the opportunity cost of their developers’ time, and Stytch enabled them to have very fast time to value. Additionally, implementing user authentication poorly has large downside risk and Standard Metrics could risk serious reputational harm. Finally, the team chose Stytch over other vendors because of Stytch’s intuitive documentation and focus on the overall developer experience.</p>
		  <p>The full implementation took Anmol less than a day, and he was surprised that he didn’t have to bother his backend team for any help.</p>
      <p>“The docs were really good. I was honestly impressed with myself that I was able to get [Stytch’s] Python SDK running without needing to ping any of our backend engineers. All the Stytch integration stuff was very easy for me to do.”</p>
      <p>The existing Standard Metrics user authentication flow was not something the team was super happy with, but they couldn’t afford to shut it off entirely to do a complete revamp without affecting their user base. With Stytch and the flexibility of their components and APIs however, Standard Metrics was able to have the best of both worlds.</p>
      <p>By using Stytch’s React components and APIs, instead of ripping and replacing their existing flow, Standard Metrics was able to simply append a passwordless email authentication experience on top of what was already there. And because Stytch has an endpoint that enables customers to <a href="https://stytch.com/docs/api/log-in-or-create-user-by-email">log in or create a user</a>, Standard Metrics was able to modify both their Log In and Sign Up flows.</p>
		  <p>This let the Standard Metrics keep a user authentication flow in place while they built out a brand new onboarding flow that is just using the SDK to send out magic links, which will go live by the end of October 2021. Stytch’s products gave the Standard Metrics team the ultimate level of optionality and let them build what they needed, when they needed, all without disrupting their end users and letting them maintain control over their user experience.</p>
      

<h2>Results</h2>
		  <p>With Email Magic Links, Standard Metrics is no longer limited to only end users with a Google or Microsoft account, and they are able to expand access to its platform to anyone with an email address while still upholding their strong security. Anecdotally, the team found that end users tend to like using the magic links to login, and they were surprised at how many people gravitated towards that option despite not actively nudging end users towards it.</p>
		  <p>As of today, after having Stytch live for just a few months, Standard Metrics is seeing upwards of 35% of end users logging in through Stytch. Most importantly, Stytch has been a reliable partner for Standard Metrics and user authentication has not been something that their engineering team has needed to spend a lot of time on.</p>
